Paul F. Marty, Ph.D., is Professor in the School of Information in the College of Communication and Information, and Associate Vice Provost for Academic Innovation at Florida State University.
As Professor of Information, Dr. Marty's research and teaching interests include museum informatics, technology, innovation, design, and life in the information society. He studies the sociotechnical interactions that take place between people, information, and technology in museums, and his publications explore the invisible work of museum computing, the evolving roles of technology professionals in museums, and the use of digital museum resources. He has worked with museums, and in the field of museum informatics, since the mid-1990s, and has served on the editorial boards and committees of national and international organizations including Museum Management and Curatorship, Museums and the Web, and the Museum Computer Network.
As Associate Vice Provost, Dr. Marty works to coordinate, communicate, and facilitate efforts among campus stakeholders to foster an environment that encourages and supports academic innovation at Florida State University. He helps faculty, staff, and students think strategically about how they can proactively adopt innovative ideas and respond effectively to radical change, integrate new approaches for improving higher education more effectively and efficiently, and streamline the university's efforts to engage with academic innovation across campus.
Dr. Marty has a background in ancient history and computer science engineering, and his Ph.D. is from the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At Florida State University, he has chaired a wide range of university committees, including the Honors Program Policy Committee, the Innovation Hub Steering Committee, the Undergraduate Program in Information Technology, and the Milton S. Carothers Faculty Lecture Series.
