As Associate Vice Provost, Dr. Marty works with faculty, staff, and students to help the university proactively adopt disruptive innovations, respond effectively to radical change, and shape the future of teaching and learning. He coordinates strategic efforts to cultivate an innovation mindset across campus, and to foster an interdisciplinary environment that encourages and supports a culture of academic innovation at Florida State University.
Dr. Marty has worked with museums and in the field of museum informatics since the mid-1990s. He studies the sociotechnical interactions that take place between people, information, and technology in museums, including the invisible work of museum computing and the evolving roles of museum technology professionals. He has served on the editorial boards of Museum Management and Curatorship, Museums and the Web, and the Museum Computer Network.
Dr. Marty has a background in ancient history and computer science engineering. His Ph.D. is from the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At Florida State University, he has chaired university committees including the Honors Program Policy Committee, the Innovation Hub Steering Committee, the Undergraduate Program in Information Technology, and the Milton S. Carothers Faculty Lecture Series.
